I want to begin the final PubNote of 2021 by thanking my amazing team here at Social Selling News—Contributing editors Jennifer Mills and Jenna Lang Warford for their invaluable assistance with copyediting, creative content and communications, Art Director Ronald Winters for his brilliant work designing the print version of this journal each month, contributing writers Stephanie Ramirez and David Rauf for their insightful and well-written articles, and last, but not least, our Director of Advertising, Joyce Inman, whose professionalism and dedication makes this endeavor possible.

Stepping into the position of Publisher at the start of the year was an exciting, but daunting, moment. However, the hard work and positive attitude of each of these individuals that I am proud to call colleagues and friends made that transition remarkably smooth.

Most companies ill-prepared for marketing to fastest growing segment of U.S.

This month’s cover story addresses the fact that many direct sellers are behind the curve when it comes to appropriately addressing the Hispanic or Latino segment of the U.S. population. Given that this is the fastest growing segment of the population and that their earning power is only increasing, failing to create a strategic approach   for this market seems counter-intuitive to say the least.

The Flower Mound, Texas-based nutritional supplement maker Mannatech says it successfully launched several new products in 2018—including a global expansion of its signature product line—but reported flat sales figures for 2018. Revenue also decreased during Q4. And the company’s stock dropped by 11 percent to $17.04 in March after reporting earnings, but rebounded to $18.00 by the second week of April.

Avon Products CEO Jan Zijderveld recently wrapped up one year on the job as the man charged with turning around one of the oldest names in direct selling.

Zijderveld, a 30-year Unilever veteran tapped in February 2018 to resurrect the struggling cosmetics maker after years of financial turmoil, has made this much clearer in his time as the top boss: Rebooting the company is still a work in progress—and and there’s plenty of work to be done.
