Sales volume growth, modern approaches can move us forward
As a collective of people engaged in the direct selling channel of distribution, we’d like to think we’ve got all our major obstacles figured out. But there’s an awful lot of uncertainty swirling around us right now. Even before AdvoCare’s stunning announcement on May 17, this year has felt like a year of change on many fronts.
Perhaps the biggest macro factor affecting not just our channel but all of U.S. business concerns this administration’s stance on tariffs and trade wars. Our cover story provides an update on how some of largest public companies are impacted and what the future may hold as the negotiations with our global trade partners continue.
When surrounded by uncertainty, it’s always a good practice to find something steady and reassuring to hold onto. We have much to look forward to! Our channel is full of exciting and inspiring news, including the announcement by Joe Mariano, President of the Direct Selling Association (DSA) that for the first time in three years, the sales volume for our channel increased. This is great news! (See page 13 for a brief story on the growth numbers).
Mariano also said he expects the channel to continue to see modest growth. With all of the gig economy and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) challenges we’ve discussed in these pages over the last 12 months, it’s great to report on anticipated growth!
But don’t get complacent. There’s still much to be done! You can read in our Special Report about the need for modernizing compensation plans and back office solutions, and how important it is to listen to modern consumers, who want what they want, when they want it, without regard to any one company’s internal struggle to upgrade.
The good news here is that many companies are rising to the challenge and capturing more market share with their innovative approaches. The willingness of these companies to meet their customers on their turf is part of what’s contributing to the rising volume of sales in the channel.
