Direct Selling Association (DSA) President and CEO Joseph Mariano announced his plan to step down in 2025 after 40 years with the organization, including nearly 14 years as president.

Mariano will continue his duties while supporting the transition to new leadership. The DSA Executive Committee has initiated a search for his successor.

During his tenure, Mariano spearheaded advocacy efforts at local, state, federal and global levels. He co-authored legal briefs for the U.S. Supreme Court and other courts, oversaw the creation of a robust industry self-regulation program and served as a media spokesperson for direct selling.

In a press release announcing the transition, DSA Board Chair Danny Lee praised Mariano’s leadership, particularly during periods of economic change and regulatory scrutiny.

“Joe has led the Association during a period of economic and social change, regulatory scrutiny and changes to our selling model. I am truly and personally grateful for his leadership and friendship during times of opportunity, change and challenge for direct selling,” said Lee.

Mariano joined DSA as a junior attorney and held various roles before becoming president in 2011. He earned degrees from Towson University and the University of Maryland School of Law.
